Case Study

Scarhill Playground's opening marks a milestone in the commitment to providing an inclusive and engaging play space for children of all ages in the local community. With a clear vision from the council and a thoughtful approach, this project has transformed a once-static area into a dynamic playground that accommodates various age groups, and abilities and sparks imaginations.

The council's vision for Scarhill Playground was simple: create a space that would cater to children up to the age of 12, with distinct play opportunities for two main age groups - under 6 years and over 6 years. Additionally, the playground needed to be welcoming to toddlers, as it regularly hosts local nurseries. The consultation process preceding the project unearthed specific requirements, including the need for an inclusive trampoline and a large multiplay unit catering to different age groups and abilities.

To fulfil these objectives, a multi-faceted approach was adopted. The playground was divided into two distinct play zones - one designed for children under 6 years of age and the other for those over 6. Each zone was equipped with age-appropriate play elements that encourage physical activity, exploration, and creativity.

The highlight of Scarhill Playground is undoubtedly the bespoke Castle Multiplay Unit. This imaginative structure features a variety of platform levels and an accessible ramp, providing play opportunities for a wide range of ages and abilities.

In line with the commitment to inclusivity, the playground boasts a wheelchair-accessible trampoline, ensuring that all children, regardless of their mobility, can enjoy the thrill of bouncing. The Swirl Inclusive Roundabout adds another layer of inclusivity, allowing children of all abilities to experience the joy of spinning together.

Adding value through design and surfacing, the entire play area has been transformed into a medieval wonderland. From the towering Castle Multiplay Unit to the vibrant and thematic surfacing, the playground whisks children away to a world of knights, castles, and epic adventures.
