Case Study

Crawley Borough Council collaborated with Wicksteed to transform Mill Pond Play Area into a vibrant and inclusive play area, divided into four distinct sections: Musical Sensory, Toddler Area, Junior Area, and Senior Area. The council's vision was to provide a play space that catered to residents of all ages and abilities while promoting inclusive play opportunities.

The Musical Sensory area offers a unique social play experience for individuals of all ages. Children can engage in making music individually or with friends in this intimate and interactive space. To spark their curiosity and encourage exploration of natural elements, a bug magnifier has been included. The addition of crazy paving and block paving enhances sensory stimulation within the area.

The Toddler Area is designed specifically for younger children and provides a safe and inclusive space. It features a range of play features, including climbing, sliding, rocking, and spinning. The equipment's bright and attractive colours will capture children's attention, creating an engaging and stimulating environment.

The Junior Area offers exciting and dynamic equipment, suitable for children who are ready to push their boundaries and test their limits. From the exhilarating Spin-a-Bounce to the challenging Treetop Towers unit, there are numerous opportunities for children to take on exciting challenges. The inclusion of the buddy board provides an inclusive play option, while the Flymobile offers a more challenging type of rotaplay.

The Senior Area boasts the impressive Matrix K4 multiplay unit, providing older children with the ultimate climbing experience. With two types of slides, this unit offers a thrilling play opportunity. Additionally, the Crusader Rope End Swing encourages social play and enhances coordination skills among children.

Mill Pond was once an adventure play area that was locked. However, the Crawley Borough Council sought to create an inclusive play space open to all residents, including children with disabilities and special needs. Wicksteed successfully transformed the old adventure play area into an inclusive haven, where children of all abilities can play and interact.
