Case Study

Bramshill Open Space has undergone a remarkable transformation thanks to London Borough of Brent’s commitment to enhancing safety, play opportunities, and inclusivity in the play area.

The project's journey started with the removal of two large mounds and a wooden play structure, a necessary step to address concerns related to anti-social behaviour. These mounds had served as hidden spaces, obscuring visibility from the road to the back of the open space. The London Borough of Brent sought to create a safer environment, allowing law enforcement to monitor the area effectively.

Additionally, the wooden play structure had become a maintenance burden and the ongoing costs and repairs associated with the structure had become unsustainable. The decision to streamline maintenance not only reduced ongoing maintenance costs but also ensured that the play area could be enjoyed without interruption.

Inclusivity was at the forefront of the Bramshill Open Space revamp. To fulfil this commitment, a range of inclusive play equipment was carefully selected and installed. The feature piece of the transformation was the introduction of the Zonda unit from our Universal Multiplay Range, designed to cater to children of diverse abilities. Complementing this were additions like the Crusader Rope End Swing, Pendulum Swing, Rock 'n' Bowl, 2-way Scottie Springer, and a Low-Level Timber Trail, offering a variety of play experiences that encourage interaction, physical activity, and imagination.

Recognising the importance of accessibility, the project addressed trip hazards associated with the existing ground trampoline. The ground was lifted to facilitate easier access for wheelchair users, ensuring that all children, regardless of their mobility, could enjoy the ground trampoline. This thoughtful adjustment, coupled with the installation of lush turf, not only improved accessibility but also added a visual appeal that enhanced the overall play area.

The London Borough of Brent is delighted with the outcome, as the project has delivered on its promises of safety, inclusivity, and play value. The revamped play area now stands as a beacon of community engagement, providing a space where children of all backgrounds can come together, explore, and create cherished memories.
