Case Study

In collaboration with Newbiggin By The Sea Town Council, Wicksteed embarked on a meaningful project at Central Park Play Area.

The Council's request was to create a toddler play space, paying homage to the old Newbiggin Line.

The initial task involved the removal of an outdated roundabout, a crucial step in enhancing safety and preparing the canvas for our creative transformation. Notably, the Council had already taken proactive measures by removing an ageing multiplay unit due to its worn-out and unsafe conditions.

Our response to their vision was multi-faceted. We began by eliminating the old roundabout, ensuring the removal of any potential hazards. This set the stage for the main attraction —a train-themed playground that captures the essence of nostalgia and imagination.

Wicksteed brought the train-themed marvel to life, adhering to the highest safety standards while infusing joy and whimsy into the park. The result was a vibrant, colourful, and fun play area—a testament to our commitment to revitalising spaces and fostering active, imaginative play.

Beyond the playground, the project forged a noteworthy partnership with the Ashington Leisure Partnership. The Town Council's grant application secured a substantial contribution of £20,000, underscoring the community's dedication to creating enriching experiences for both the young and the old.

The Central Park Play Area now stands not just as a safe and inviting space for outdoor play but as a living tribute to the Newbiggin Line. It seamlessly weaves the past into the fabric of the community's future, creating lasting memories for generations to come.

Wicksteed takes pride in being part of projects that go beyond playgrounds, creating meaningful spaces that leave a positive impact on communities.
