Badger Recreation Ground Play Area, Chesterfield Council

Written by The Wicksteed Team, 11 Jan 23

Case Study

The council wanted to rejuvenate the site with the aim to target the age range from toddlers to 12 years old. For this tender it was essential that the equipment was strong, low maintenance and incorporated bright colours.

We used a variety of steel equipment on this project as this was a robust option ensuring less frequent maintenance. A large Tree Top Towers Multiplay Unit was chosen as the main feature of the play area which includes a variety of play features such as a high tube slide, fireman’s pole, scramble net and a high climbing wall. To enable accessibility and play for the ages targeted we also incorporated a variation of swings, a 20m steel cableway, toddler Multiplay unit, horizontal ladder and an inclusive steel roundabout, reassuring children of all abilities are catered for. Furthermore, rubber grass mats were included around the area to ensure safer play providing impact-absorbing protection. Black eco fleck Wet Pore surrounds the inclusive roundabout allowing easy access for wheelchairs.

Customer Comment

“The existing play space at Badger Recreation Ground had become tired and worn out and the new play space has been a tremendous addition and has received an overwhelming positive response from the local community. It has added real value to the community and the Friends of Badger Recreation Ground who raised funding towards have been energised by its success. I believe it will have a positive and lasting impact for families and children in the area for many years to come.”

“Despite the challenges presented by COVID 19 in the supply chain Wicksteed delivered our new play space on time and to budget. The play equipment stands out from the crowd as the equipment is bright, long lasting and original, with little maintenance requirements.”- John Ramsey
