Wicksteed at The Essex Playing Fields Association Awards 2018!
Wicksteed @ The Essex Playing Fields Association Awards 2018!
The Essex Playing Fields Association recently held their annual award ceremony which champions the best kept playing fields in the area. First held in 1971 and still going strong today the awards ceremony is a great way for the members of The Essex Playing Fields Association to showcase their playing fields, playgrounds and sports grounds. Deserving winners receive their certificates and trophies at the AGM/Presentation night and it is fully supported by Patron Lord Petre and the current Chairman of Essex County Council.
Wicksteed’s very own John Hambrook attended this year’s ceremony to sponsor and present the Class 3 winners, Chelmsford City Council.
The Essex Playing Fields Association can trace their roots all the way back to 1924 and was started by Col Ernest Loftus CBE with the aim of preserving land for recreational purposes. The efforts of Col Ernest Loftus CBE were boosted with the help of King George V who also had a great interest in playing fields. To this day there are playgrounds up and down the country that bear his name.
The Essex Playing Fields Association continues to be one of the most successful Playing Field Associations in the country and is still member based. Members are made up of City, District, Parish and Town Councils, Sports Clubs and Associations and Individual and Life members. The association helps members by advising them with all things field, pitch and play area related, the offer of a Small Grants scheme and also offers advice on planning issues.
