New Forkhill Playground
The new Wicksteed Forkhill Play Park was officially opened in the Green Spaces Site on the School Road on the 14th June 2019, where Council officials along with local school and the community met to enjoy the outdoors with a shared investment with Rural Development Funding and Newry and Mourne District Council.
Wicksteed were asked to create a design for a brand new Park in Forkhill village. It was to be sited at an old army barracks with stunning views of the local countyside and the installation was actually on top of part of a helicopter pad. There was a new walking path created by the customer around the perimeter of the site which linked the local primary school to the play area.
Tree Top Towers Multi-Play Unit
The Park is suitable for all ages and abilities. The centre-piece of the Park was the majestic Tree Top Towers multi play unit. There is also a 30m long Cableway, 2 different trim trails, various animal springies, wheelchair accessible roundabout, Cardera Galleon multi play unit, various swings and various play panels.
Chairperson Charlie Casey said
“inclusive play is an important part of the design of these parks, provide fun activities and helping to keep children healthy, and promote social inclusion which can only be good for all. Everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy our parks”
Conor Haughey Head of outdoor Leisure said
“High quality, well-used parks bring people together and lead to more inclusive communities. So, we need to make sure that as many parks and open spaces as possible are welcoming to people regardless of their abilities.”
