Stand to attention at the new Coldstream playground!
Wicksteed were delighted to see the opening of the brand new Coldstream Playground for Scottish Borders Council. The new playground features play equipment for all ages and is part of a £3.1m investment in new play parks, skate parks and bmx tracks and other outdoor community facilities in the area. A huge party was held in the park on the opening day to celebrate.
The bespoke design of the new playground is completely unique to Coldstream and draws inspiration from the famous Coldstream Guards and the towns rich history. The Coldstream Guards is the oldest regiment in the British Army and originated in the area in 1650, so it was only natural that this became an overriding theme for the playground design.
Bespoke playground equipment
The park features some of our best dynamic products such as the huge Twin Tower Timber Pyramid Unit and Crusader Swing along with several bespoke play features and an array of inclusive playground equipment. Wicksteed designed several items that are completely unique to the site including a bespoke Coldstream Rock Climber and a bespoke Single tower Inclusive Multi Play Unit.
Ensuring that our playgrounds are suitable for all users with the careful selection of inclusive playground equipment is integral to Wicksteed and this is shown throughout the design for the Coldstream Play Area.
Inclusive Playground Equipment
A big part of the brief for the new playground was inclusive play. Wicksteed designed and developed a brand new unit especially for the playground. The completely bespoke Coldstream inclusive multi-play features a fully accessible ramp which provides access to the main play tower. Along the way to the main play tower, children can enjoy an array of sensory play panels and a multitude of colours and textures. The unit also features an easily accessible wide slide so children can enjoy the sliding experience with parents /carers or friends.
