New Maidstone Council Play Areas
Leading outdoor play and fitness experts, Wicksteed Playgrounds, has just completed phase 1 of a huge project to design and install 33 play and recreation areas for Maidstone Council. The first phase of 12 sites has been completed and phase 2 has now begun in earnest. The proposed work across the range of sites includes the refurbishing and improvement of existing play equipment (where possible), the installation of a variety of Wicksteed’s latest play products, visually appealing new safety surfacing, seating and picnic areas and dynamic and intuitive landscaping – ideal for individual expression.
“We are delighted to work with Maidstone Council on this large project to transform some of its existing old play areas and create new ones with our proven design expertise. The majority of play areas will cater for all ages and abilities and will make a real difference to the local communities they will serve. As well as play equipment, several sites will also include our award winning outdoor gym range – the FLZ. The project is on track to be completed by autumn 2017,” says Stuart Wetherell, Sales Director at Wicksteed.
Two of the larger sites at Mallards Way and Queen Elizabeth Park are the latest to have begun their transformation. Mallards Way will include a fun toddler area with the latest double toddler and junior swings. There will be a mix of timber and steel equipment, for all ages, as well as the ‘Wicksteed Flyer’ play train, Cobra See-saw and a large timber and rope Galaxy Space Frame. The Queen Elizabeth Park site will feature a large ‘Gaheris Castle’ multi-play unit with turrets to climb and a long slide to escape invaders! The play area will also include Wicksteed’s popular Zig-Zag Twisters and a fun Longboard for those with good balancing skills!
Wicksteed don’t just install pieces of play equipment in a designated area, but a great deal of planning and local consultation goes into the design of each site to ensure it offers optimum play opportunities within each allotted space. This ensures our play areas provide a place where families, children and young people can have fun all year round. The team of designers at Wicksteed understand the psychology of play and use this, combined with a comprehensive knowledge of the existing surroundings of a site, to determine the right approach to the equipment and landscaping which is best suited.
