Harestanes Country Park - New Inclusive Play Area
After four months in the making Wicksteed Playgrounds was delighted to see opening of the new £342,000 Harestanes Play Area in Scotland. The play park is Scotland’s biggest and best inclusive play area. The park itself is managed by Live Borders on behalf of Scottish Borders Council. Work on the play area began in January with the official opening coming just in time for the Easter weekend and well on schedule.
The redevelopment of the play facility was part of a £3.1 million, four-year make over of the region’s play parks which is being undertaken by Scottish Borders Council. The Harestanes development includes around 50 pieces of innovative, durable play equipment as well as multi- sensory textures, landscaped features and safety surfacing. In addition to the dynamic play equipment, there is an agility trail, a picnic area and a toddler play garden. At the heart the play park is an impressive Jedburgh Abbey-inspired centrepiece and pyramid tower.
“ We now have an absolutely fantastic new play park at Harestanes suitable for all ages. Visitor numbers have double since the opening which has had a huge knock on efect to the parks catering and retail outlets. Throughout the whole design process from start to finish we have ben absolutely delighted with the work that Wicksteed have done.”
