What we are talking about…

Colegrave School, Newham

September 20, 2021

Wicksteed successfully tendered on the basis of a best overall technical submission to undertake the refurbishment of part of the school’s playground, improving the opportunities for play for the children attending the school.

The existing play area playground was currently subdivided by the use of fenced planting beds, decking and changes in the paving surfaces and the two main areas requiring refurbishment were the play areas for the 5-8yr olds and the 7-11yr olds and decking area.

We were commissioned by the London Borough of Newham to supply and install the new KS1 & 2 play areas, which was a very exciting project coming in at a cost of £110k.
Our design proposal took into account the Councils requirements to provide good access to all children regardless of their ability offering them the opportunity to explore through freely chosen play. Provide a socially inclusive, enjoyable, safe yet challenging and stimulating environment for a wide range of activities from active to quiet.
In the play area itself, we have focused upon equipment that is challenging and may be used by several users simultaneously.

Equipment for KS1 includes a Dinosaur’s Domain, DDA compliant Swirl roundabout, pair of Talking Flowers and a specially landscaped mound. For the older children, we installed our fab Matrix K5, a towering, thrilling centrepiece offering lots of challenging physical play, bespoke Agility Trail and some musical instruments, too. The colourful safety surfacing adds extra style and brightness.

Customer Comment

“Our new playground has been greeted with great excitement and enthusiasm by pupils, teachers and parents. Our pupils love the challenges and variety of equipment. The teachers have commented on the opportunities to develop social interaction and upper body strength, whereas our parents have appreciated the safe playing area which has extended our community links. The playground redevelopment has delivered more than we originally anticipated and we are enjoying it immensely!!”
