What we are talking about…

Corby Academy Play Area

April 5, 2016

Client: Corby Academy, Corby Vale

A bland space is transformed into a very colourful, interactive and exciting outdoor environment, complete with playful landforms and plenty of physical challenges.

Brief: To provide an engaging, exciting and ready-to-use outdoor space that would not only stimulate and challenge the children but also encourage them to learn as they played.

The site has taken on a very colourful appearance where both synthetic grass and wetpour surfacing have been enhanced with bright graphics and a specially created mound with revetments and stepped logs provides a fantastic three dimensional aspect.  An entirely bespoke Fantasy Funrun keeps the children on their toes as they test out a variety of physical movements with each different challenge, whilst a Storyteller Chair and Toadstools offer refuge for quieter moments to be enjoyed.   Tactile timber elements, including a magical Rainbow Room where coloured filters on the side panels allow the light to shine through to create a rainbow effect blend in seamlessly with the cool, bold thrill-a-minute wet play provision to be found in the Water Splash unit!  Pupils can now explore so many different ways to stretch physical, mental and social boundaries.

Nikki Lamond, Principal, was delighted with the results and said: “Here at Corby Primary Academy we understand the value of play-based learning and aim to provide a wide range of opportunities for our children, both inside and in our outdoor area.  We wanted an engaging, exciting and ready-to-use outdoor space that would stimulate and challenge the children whilst encouraging them to learn as they played.  We were delighted with the way that Wicksteed supported us from the moment we took them up on their free design consultation to making our vision a reality.  The installation process was quick and simple and minimised the impact on the rest of the school and we were kept involved at every stage. We are delighted with the finished area and cannot recommend Wicksteed highly enough.”
